St. John's River Water
Management District - Hydrologic & Engineering Evaluation
In
2001, Schreuder, Inc. was selected from a group of several large
statewide consulting firms to conduct a study of the Etonia Creek Basin
in Clay County (Florida) resulting in recommendations for hydrologic and
engineering improvements in the entire watershed such that surface water
levels in Lake Brooklyn, which had fallen by more than 20 feet, could
recover. In 2002 a report
“ Investigation and Conceptual Design of Options for the Lake Brooklyn
Watershed, Clay County, Florida” was published and submitted to all
participating stake holders: St.
Johns River Water Management District; Lake Region Council Association;
Keystone Heights Lake Advisory Council; Clay County Commission; Camp
Blanding (Fla. National Guard); E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co, Inc.
and State Representative Joe Pickens.
Several
of the engineering design options recommended in the report have been
constructed and implemented and have as predicted begun to improve the
surface water levels in Lake Brooklyn.
A follow-up study has been recommended and funding is being
sought through the offices of the State Representative Mr. Joe Pickens
to further improve the hydrologic conditions in the Etonia Creek basin.
